The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week

The week commencing 22 April 1972 was the last week before programme changes that saw the departure of Joost Verhoeven and the arrival of Alfred Lagarde, as well as the extension of the Dutch service by an hour to 19.00 each day, which meant that the International service lost an hour. This is how I recorded it in my RNI diary:

Saturday 22 April 1972

Gerard Smit presents Kop Op this morning and International service programmes are:

18.00 Rob Eden (International Prediction Hit 40)

 21.05 Brian McKenzie

23.00 Brian McKenzie (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 Terry Davis

 3.00 - 7.00 Arnold Layne

The Top 40 show overruns by 5 minutes and news is read by Terry Davis and Arnold Layne.

A mobile discotheque today is advertised as featuring Tony Berk and Mike Ross, but, as Mike is on board the Mebo 2, somebody else will have to take his place.

Sunday 23 April 1972

Hans ten Hooge presents Kop Op today and Gerard Smit presents Driemaster.

International service programmes are:

 18.00 Brian McKenzie (Hitbacks)

 20.00 Terry Davis (Cloud Nine)

23.00 Rob Eden (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Brian McKenzie

Arnold Layne reads the news. There are no Top 5s in the hitback show today.

Monday 24 April 1972

Hans ten Hooge returns to Driemaster today and International service programmes are:

 18.00 Rob Eden

 21.00 Terry Davis

23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Brian McKenzie

Arnold Layne reads the news.

Tuesday 25 April 1972

Two new adverts today - one for 7 Up featuring the voice of Brian McKenzie and one in Dutch for Kent cigarettes.

The programme schedule is the same as yesterday and Arnold Layne reads the news. Terry Davis features the hits of Gilbert O'Sullivan and Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas in his programme.

Wednesday 26 April 1972

The programme schedule remains the same and Arnold Layne reads news. Terry Davis features Peter Sellers singing some Beatles songs and also some oldies from his own record collection.

Thursday 27 April 1972

Terry Davis, Mike Ross and Hans ten Hooge go off on shore leave and Leo van der Goot and Paul May return. Leo takes over on Driemaster and International service programmes are:

 18.00 Rob Eden

 21.00 Paul May

23.00 Paul May (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Brian McKenzie

Arnold Layne reads the news

Friday 28 April 1972

Programmes change again today, which is apparently because there will be permanent programme changes on Monday. Tonight's schedule is:

 18.00 Paul May

 21.00 Arnold Layne

23.00 Arnold Layne (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 Brian McKenzie

 3.00 - 6.00 Rob Eden

Arnold Layne and Paul May read the news.

There is a new promo for the Cloud Nine programme, made by Terry Davis.
